No other scan tool manufacturer can touch OTC when it comes to working closely with the vehicle manufacturers. That's why Pathfinder '99 is leaps and bounds ahead of competition. Turn the page, and let the "Car Doctor" fill you in on OTC's problem solving features that will help you lick the next diagnostic head-scratcher that comes your way, with OTC's Pathfinder '99 working hard for you.

What about emission related OBD II trouble codes that aren't monitored continuously? Well, don't worry. Pathfinder provides you with the information you need to fix 'em right the first time, eliminating costly comebacks? You get the information to duplicate the failure that triggered the code. Pathfinder tells you what operating conditions must occur before the system even checks for a fault; How many times the sensor must fail before it turns on the MIL, and what operational parameters are considered a failure.

So you fix the code and clear it. Your're not done yet! You have to verify that it's fixed. Pathfinder's DTC status feature tells you if the system has run the test, not run the test, failed the test, or it has intermittently failed the test. This is the only way you can be sure the vehicle has been fixed!

At last...a quick way to solve those "no code" driveability problems that can really ruin your day.

You've been there. A puzzling driveability problem defies your best efforts. There are no trouble codes showing to tip you off, and for sure you don't want to end up swapping part after part, hoping you get lucky. That can use up your valuable, non-billable time, not to mention your customer's patience.

Let's look at a "real work" example:

Ron Anarian, "The Car Doctor," is the well-known master technician and shop owner who has become a radio personality known to millions. He's also a loyal, long-term user of OTC scan tools. Let's listen in on one of his call-ins:

Troubled Technician: Ron, this one has me stumped. My customer's '93 Camaro with the 5.7 engine and automatic transmission suddenly surges under high acceleration at highway speed; he says his wife is scared to drive it. He's had it to two other shops and they can't fix it. When I opened the hood, I saw so many new shiny parts I almost had to put on sunglasses. They'd been swapping parts; I knew I was in trouble. His patience is running out and so is mine. I've already been messing with this car for more hours that I can bill. Help!

Ron the Car Doctor: I've run into the same problem. I didn't have any codes either, but since Pathfinder has built-in troubleshooting software such as Symptoms and Possible Causes, it gave me a diagnostic starting point. Try this. Go the the "Symptom Screen: of Pathfinder '99 software. That's another OTC exclusive, by the way. It shows possible causes of problems, and I'm betting that it will indicate "Torque Converter Clutch Engagement/Disengagement" as a problem area. At least that's what I found in a similar deal. I configured my custom screen to view torque converter clutch, throttle position sensor, and MAP.

Troubled Technician: Yeah, I have an OTC scan tool. What's next?

Ron the Car Doctor: In my case during a test drive I felt the problem. And as Murphy's Law would have it, I didn't have the scan tool configured for recording. Luckily, the OTC Enhanced Monitor has the exclusive new Auto-Record feature that enabled me to store the data at the time of the glitch. The Auto-Record feature is what you need when you're up against those intermittent driveability problems. OTC lets you concentrate on duplicating the driving conditions, while the problem is automatically recorded.

Troubled Technician: Now what did you do?

Ron the Car Doctor: When I got back in the shop, I used my PC with OTC's GTi graphing software for big-format viewing of the data. This is an option, but it graphs out the data so you can easily view problems.

Troubled Technician: OTC scan tool software gives me even more diagnostic advantages that I realized. Now what?

Ron the Car Doctor: Here's where the Windows-based Pathfinder '99 file of Technical Service Bulletins and PROM I.D. software really pays off. Now, OTC has put all this data on a CD. No time wasted paging through thick manuals. The information you need is pinpointed in seconds. I'm expecting that GM's TSB #476525A will come up, indicating that a new PROM is needed to lick the problem.

After the new PROM is installed and the repair is verified, you should have a happy customer, and it's taken less than an hour of diagnostic time, including a test drive.

More Pathfinder '99 benefits that can work for you:

  • Clearing codes on OBD II Vehicles isn't enough. That's why OTC has included complete drive cycle test procedures that tell you step by step, how to reset the flags.
  • Time is money? Pathfinder '99 allows you to customize the readout, saving steps. You can save and recall them whenever you want.
  • You get an updated scan tool manual that's packed with sensor, switch, and trouble code information.
  • You get bi-directional control of engine management systems such as the auxiliary cooling fan, A/C relay, evaporative purge solenoid, and EGR solenoid.

Of course, OTC gives you complete coverage of OBD II systems. You get domestic coverage of GM, Ford, Chrysler, Saturn, and Jeep OBD II enhanced systems, plus many domestically badged imports. It also provides troubleshooting capabilities, including freeze frame, readiness tests, continuous monitors, and more on domestic vehicles, as well as Asian and European imports which conform to OBD II Generic Standards for '95 to '99, and beyond.

The bottom line: OTC is your logical scan tool choice...

Combine with the OTC Enhanced Monitor scan tool, Pathfinder '99 delivers the power and performance you deserve in a scan tool package. So if you're fed up with a tool that led you down the wrong path, get Pathfinder '99 and start making more money!
