Fuel Cap Tester System Offers Pre-Screening Compliance

Stant's 12300 Fuel Cap Tester System offers the industry's simplest means of measuring the efficiency and compliance of fuel caps. Stant designed this system for repair facilities that are offering pre-screening tests of customer's fuel caps before their vehicles are tested for state certification.

Many states currently include fuel cap testing as part of their state vehicle inspection and many more states will do so before the end of this year. This will ultimately affect more than 88 million vehicles. Recent fuel cap pressure test studies indicate an approximate 8% cap failure rate.

Varying degrees of compliance exist because testing is not mandated nation-wide. However, states that do conduct fuel cap testing receive EPA credit, which can benefit the state in the form of additional dollars for highway funding.

Stant's 12300 follows the EPA's recommended "flow testing" method of testing fuel caps. The pass/fail limits that were established by Stant in cooperation with the California BAR and EPA set the standards that other states must follow.

All Stant made fuel caps meet the requirements for passing the various state certifications. Not all fuel caps will pass inspection, even when they're newly purchased.

The 12300 unit and set of nine fuel cap adapters are each stored in injection-molded carrying cases.
