The MTS 5200 was designed from the ground up for professional automotive technicians. High speed sample rates to insure capturing the fastest glitches. 4 channels provide great diagnostic testing flexibility. Traditional Ignition System Diagnostics

  • Ignition Analyzer for DI/EI Systems - The MTS 5200 is a Primary and Secondary Ignition Analyzer supporting up to 12 Cylinders. The display formats are the same for primary and secondary ignition, utilizing all of the traditional displays that you are accustomed to.
  • Cranking kV Test for DI/EI Systems - The Cranking kV Test allows you to perform a quick diagnosis of the secondary ignition system‘s ability to produce spark during maximum compression at cranking engine speed. This test serves as a good indicator of compression.
  • Cylinder Balance Test for DI Systems - If each cylinder contributes to the overall engine RPM, then the elimination of one (or more) cylinder‘s ignition firing reduces the engine RPM proportional to the eliminated cylinder‘s contribution. Thus, a cylinder‘s performance can be measured by comparing the engine‘s rotational speed with all cylinders ―enabled‖ (ENA) and with one (or more) cylinder ―disabled (DIS).
  • Vacuum Change per Cylinder - As an optional feature you can test the DC vacuum difference between the enabled and disabled states. The DC vacuum is measured at a central port in the intake manifold, and the data is captured at the same time the RPM difference data is captured.

4-Channel Lab Scope

  • Build Your Own Display from Any Tester Input. Combine the different tester functions in the lab scope to build the display that you need to diagnose today‘s cars. Assign any of the tester inputs to any of the scopes 4 channels. Use any tester input as the trigger source.

Power Graphing Meter

  • The Power Graphing Meter Graphing Multimeter displays data over extended periods of time giving you a better way to view the data or a fault condition. For intermittent problems, simply connect to the suspect circuit and monitor the plotted measurement by verifying glitches in the graph and/or look for higher than normal min/max readings. Graphing Multimeter helps you accurately evaluate automotive signals such as O2 Sensors, MAF / MAP, IAT, Injector pulse width, EGR valve position sensor test, and TPS sweep test.

The General Motors Digital MAF Snap Throttle Test

  • The General Motors Digital Mass Air Flow Sensor produces a high speed digital signal and sends it to the PCM for Air flow calculations. The signal output ranges from about 2kHz at idle to over 8kHz at high RPM. This makes it extremely difficult to see intermittent glitches in the signal using a lab scope. In addition, performing a snap throttle test to see if the sensor can make 8kHz requires a high speed frequency counter.
Engine Analyzer

 

  • Vacuum per Cylinder Testing - The Vacuum per Cylinder display is used to compare each cylinder‘s mechanical ability to produce vacuum. The Minimum, Maximum, Live, and Average are displayed numerically for each cylinder. This test is perfect for finding valve train problems.
  • Vacuum Testing in the Power Graphing Meter - The probe can measure vacuum as well as positive pressure created by Turbocharged and Supercharged engines. Anything above the centerline is positive pressure, anything below is vacuum.

  • Cranking Compression Test in Power Graphing Meter and Lab Scope - Fit the Pressure Transducer to almost any compression testing kit using the supplied bushing adapters.
  • Running Compression Test in the Lab Scope - Perform an engine running compression test and view pressure pulses in all 4 strokes of the engine. Valuable information about engine condition can be determined using this method.
